Our Roots

Founded in 1896, the East Tennessee Mutual Insurance Company has a storied history rooted in community and resilience. Originally established as the Farmers Fire Insurance Company of Sullivan County, our humble beginnings were shaped by a group of visionary farmers. Their goal was simple yet profound: to protect their properties against unforeseen losses. For over 125 years, this vision has been the cornerstone of our journey.

As the world changed, so did the needs of our policyholders. We’ve always believed in adapting to these changes, growing alongside the communities we serve. In 2003, a significant milestone marked our evolution – the transition from Farmers Fire Insurance Company of Sullivan County to East Tennessee Mutual Insurance Company. This change was more than just in name; it signified our commitment to expanding our coverage and services.

Today, we honor our heritage by offering a comprehensive suite of insurance products. While we continue to provide the reliable fire insurance for farms and dwellings, as was our founding principle, we’ve expanded our portfolio to include a full Homeowner Policy.
